Expatriate woman seeks help to return home

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) An Indian expatriate woman who wants to return has written a letter to the Indian Embassy in Muscat seeking help to pay RO1,500 as fine for illegally staying in the sultanate.

In the letter (a copy of which is with Muscat Daily), the mother of two, Suprabha Reena Das, has said that she is finding it difficult to pay the fine and that she could not get the residence card renewed on time due to the death of her sponsor in a road accident.

''I was staying with my husband on a family visa for the past 12 years. But he left the country in November last year and my residence card had expired in 2010.''

She further said in the letter that she has been evicted from her accommodation due to non-payment of rent. ''I am not in a position to renew my passport, as authorities are insisting on a valid residence card to process the renewal application.''

Meanwhile, P M Jabir, community welfare, secretary Indian Social Club, Muscat, said that the organisation has taken up her case.  The community welfare department of the Indian Embassy has also taken up the matter and a senior official in the department has requested charity organisations to come forward and help Suprabha pay the fine.
