Bariatric surgery has several benefits, say Oman doctors


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A media briefing was held by Al Hayat International Hospital on Sunday about the medical benefits of undergoing bariatric surgery. A team of eight specialists from the hospital was present at the conference to talk about the positive aspects of the procedure.


Dr J S Rajkumar, senior consultant, general and laparoscopic surgeon and a senior member of the hospital's surgery team said, ''Most people associate bariatric surgery with weight loss and very few are aware that it is one of the best ways to cure diabetes, cholesterol and heart-related ailments. The focus is always on cure for several diseases through this procedure rather than to shed extra kilos and look beautiful.''


On the high cost of the surgery, Dr K P Raman, chairman of Al Hayat International Hospital, said, ''The cost to undergo the treatment at Al Hayat is far less than other hospitals in Oman and almost half of that in Dubai. We have performed 20 operations in the last six months.''


Dr Rajkumar added, ''It is not a complicated procedure and patients can get back to their daily lives the very next day.''
