KIMS Oman introduces advanced laser procedures

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) KIMS Oman Hospital on Sunday announced the introduction of advanced laser procedures to treat kidney stones and haemorrhoids. ''The laser lithotripsy is an advanced technology which helps remove stones and will help patients in a great way.

In Oman, where the probability of getting kidney stones is 30 per cent higher, this technology would prove to be a boon,'' said Dr Arun Panackal, specialist, urology, KIMS Oman.

In this procedure, the urologist inserts a small scope through the urethra into the bladder and into the ureter. Once the stones are found they are fragmented using laser technology. After the fragmentation, the procedure vapourises the stone into thousands of small pieces. These pieces are then extracted or washed out of the kidney through urine.

''We are committed to providing world class healthcare in Oman. These two advanced technologies will ensure patients get best and quick care for treating stones and haemorrhoids. Renowned surgeons like Dr Laszlo Zoltan Ternyik's presence has strengthened the team,'' said VMA Hakkim, executive director of KIMS Hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr Houssam Ahmad Akoum, chief operating officer, KIMS Hospital said the conventional methods of surgery take at least a week for the patient to recover but these advanced laser treatments aid quick recovery.

''Although these advanced technologies cost a bit more, they offer comfort in a short period,'' he added.&nbs
