(MENAFN - Arab News) A Saudi girl stabbed her father in the neck on Thursday outside her school before getting out of the car to take an exam in a village near Jazan.
Sources told local media that the girl would not give any reason for her act.
"The girl, who was sitting in the back seat of the car, stabbed her father upon arrival at the school. She then got out of the car to attend school. Several passers-by who saw the incident transferred the father to a hospital, saving his life. They also informed security authorities about the incident," the sources said.
"The girl was arrested from the school by policewomen and taken away for further investigation. During interrogation, she told the police that she had reasons that forced her to stab her father but refused to disclose them," the sources added.
The father's condition was stable, while the police referred the girl to a specialist institute in Abha, the sources said, adding that the police was in the process of completing investigation papers.
The National Society for Human Rights has taken note of the case and will be following up with various agencies. Arab News made several attempts to speak to the National Society for Human Right's branch in Jazan to no avail.
Bayan Zahran, a Saudi lawyer, told Arab News: "The girl must be examined by a medical committee to establish whether she suffers from mental illness before putting her on trial.
