(MENAFN - Arab News) The Alkhobar Festival, which will kick off on Jan. 16, will be a grand affair, with activities and events for all age groups, Essam Al-Mulla, chairperson of Alkhobar Municipality, said on Tuesday

He said that the eight-day festival, which is being held under the theme "Live Your Mood," would go on unhindered and would be a grand success despite the construction and maintenance works going on at the Alkhobar Corniche

"We are expecting millions of visitors at the festival, and all the places earmarked for events have been done up so that citizens, expatriates and visitors from other Gulf countries can enjoy the festive atmosphere," Al-Mulla said

"We have identified six places, including the Alkhobar waterfront, Half-moon Beach, Green Hall, SCITECH, and commercial complexes like Alrashid Mall and Venice mall, where 35 activities will be held.

The festival, the first of its kind in Alkhobar, is being held under the patronage of EP Gov. Prince Saud Bin Naif.

"We were keen on having activities that would attract children, youngsters and adults.

Al-Mulla said the festival will open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day until Jan. 24

The festival will include fireworks both at the inaugural and concluding ceremonies, with Alkhobar waterfront occupying the prime place. It will also include a green falcons' air show that will take place over two days and a festival stage where plays, entertainment shows, Eastern Province folklore performances, acrobatic shows and football skills will be staged. There will also be professional skating and several amusement activities

He said: "The festival village will be spread over an area of 25,000 sqm. It will include a children's exhibition, a productive families' exhibition, a Graffiti art gallery, murals, and a fine arts exhibition, as well as a gallery on Alkhobar, which will contain information on the history of the city.

He said: "Activities on the half-moon beach will include events for both families and youngsters, such as soccer beach and navy games, besides a village of sculpture with sand, which will the first of its kind in the Eastern Province. There would also be car races, a safari village for children and a car painting show.

These activities will be held in four different places along the half-moon beach, Al-Mulla said, adding that the green hall would host different events, which will meet the expectations of EP people and visitors alike, including a play for adults, standup comedy and poetry event.

He also spoke about SCITECH, which will have various events, including traditional food, cultural seminars, a gallery on treasures of the sea, Alharamain gallery, Holy Khaba curtain (Kishwah) gallery and Holy Qur'an printing

He said the adults play will be held in green hall, while the children's play will be held at the Angry Bird stage at Alrshid Mall

Al-Mulla called on people including expatriates to come and enjoy the Alkhobar tourism festival 2014 activities. "I hope everyone will enjoy the new and different activities," he added
