(MENAFN - Arab News) The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) announced that the prizes of the Spring Shopping Festival will exceed SR2 million. The 1,200 awards include 10 luxury cars

"Hayya Jeddah" will start on Jan. 10, and attract more than a million families from the Kingdom and other GCC states, JCCI said, adding that the event will be the largest Saudi festival in terms of discounts, prizes, and gifts. The festival aims to enhance Jeddah's status as a major tourist destination.

Hassan bin Ibrahim Dahlan, deputy secretary-general of JCCI, said the opening ceremony will be held at Red Sea Mall with the presence of 50,000 people. The festival will organize 52 various events, 42 of whom will be a part of a historic cultural festival

Adnan Mandoura, secretary-general of JCCI said the event coincides with the Dubai Shopping Festival

"Jeddah has its own fans and lovers," he said. "The city has 70 entertainment sites, 360 commercial centers, 105 street markets, a beautiful coastal shore overlooking the Red Sea, as well as other rich historical and cultural sites.

Jeddah offers lower-price products, making it a strong competitor to Dubai, he said, adding that "The city is also regarded as the the gateway to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah

Mandoura said that JCCI plans to launch a new festival in mid-February. "Jeddah Week for Work" will target micro-enterprises and entrepreneurs by holding youth business exhibitions and job-related events, he added
