(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Waves Against Boredom a solo art exhibition by Mohammed Abd Elhadi, a Jordanian artist based in Oman, was inaugurated on Tuesday by H E Yves Oudin, French Ambassador, at the Omani-French Center (CFO).
The show features 23 pieces by the artist, who has been teaching graphic design at the Scientific College of Design for six years and has participated in three exhibitions at Bait al Zubair Museum, as well as in Jordan.
''I start with a sketch on paper, colour it, scan it, and re-illustrate it using various digital arts software. While not being completely abstract, my work is modern and it features dreams, imagination and fantasy. Among my many inspirations are the works of Salvador Dali. I believe that while art aficionados in the sultanate tend to prefer very realistic works such as landscapes, modern art is starting to find a niche. People have more of an appreciation for it than they did a few years ago.''
''CFO director Guilhem Constans saw my work, and asked to see my portfolio. I believe the various exhibitions held at CFO are a great platform for artists of all backgrounds to showcase their works in the sultanate,'' added Elhadi.
The 23 pieces on display until January 30 are all on sale, with prices ranging from RO150 to RO280.
Constans said, ''While this is the first exhibition of 2014, it is the fifth of the season, which started in September 2013, and the tenth since we opened our exhibition space last year.
This exhibition is very different from what we've been displaying before. It's contemporary, modern, colourful. It's also the first time a Jordanian citizen is exhibiting at CFO. People of several nationalities come to learn French at the centre, and we like their countries to be represented by artistic activities as well.'
