(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Almouj Golf has made a first time entry into the list of the top ten golf courses in the Middle East, published annually by Golf Digest Middle East magazine.
The inclusion shows the incredible quality of Almouj Golf course, one year on from its official launch - a golf course which has all the classic design touches of Greg Norman, with its tricky water hazards and bunkers, but with a distinct Omani influence that really sets it apart. Almouj Golf is listed in the fourth place, and is one of only two entries on the list from outside the UAE. Almouj Golf came in just behind its Dubai Golf affiliate the Majlis at Emirates Golf Club, which took second place on the list.
Judging was across seven criteria: shot values, design variety, resistance to scoring, memorability, aesthetics, conditioning, ambience. Judges praised the course for its ‘succession of exhilarating holes that play out towards the Sea of Oman', and scored it a fourth place – 61.83 out of a total score of 80.
Simon Duffield, general manager of Almouj Golf said the first time entry on the rankings was an accolade for all who work and play at the course. ''We are extremely pleased, not only to be included on Golf Digest Middle East rankings for the first time, but to achieve fourth place. This tells us that we are not only leading the field in Oman, but are a force to be reckon with regionally.
This became evident recently when the course was praised for its immaculate condition during the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic 2013 – the European Challenge Tour event held here in October. Much credit must go to our head greenkeeper Steven Johnson and his team for their exceptional work year-round to keep our course in peak condition
