Oman's Ministry of Manpower to form committee to review workers' demands


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, on Sunday announced the decision to form a committee to review demands of workers at petroleum facilities, refineries and air and sea ports.

The committee will be co-chaired by the Undersecretary for Labour Affairs in the Ministry of Manpower and will have as members deputy chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Board of Directors, deputy president of General Workers Union of Oman and workers' representatives.

The committee can seek assistance from other parties to investigate workers' demands, with the director of Trade Union Organisations nominated as rapporteur of the committee, Oman News Agency reported.

The decision also stated that the demands of workers from listed industries shall be submitted to the committee's rapporteur via the trade union at the facility. The committee shall adjudicate the demands as per the procedures stipulated in the ministerial decision regarding collective negotiation, peaceful strike and closure.
