Shanghai remains busiest port in 2013

(MENAFN) Shanghai remained the world's busiest container port last year as the city is nearing its target of becoming a shipping center, Xinhua reported. Container throughput hit 33.6 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2013, increasing 3.3 percent from the year before it. Last year was important for Shanghai shipping as a two-way traffic in the main channel of Yangshan Deep-water Port was opened in October to help shipping lines save on costs and improve Shanghai turnover.
