(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Gianfranco Planchestainer of Italy held on to the overall top spot in the boys' event, while the girls' category saw Poland's Agata Barwinska go on top after day two of the 2013 Laser Radial Youth World Championship at Musannah on Monday.
In the boys' section, 15 year old Joan Cardona from the Spanish city of Palma registered an emphatic win in the first race of the day.
He led the fleet all the way, finishing ahead of Gianfranco (2) and Switzerland's David Biedermann (3).
The sailors from the northern European countries of Poland, Belgium and Finland took advantage of the changing wind conditions in Musannah on Monday.
Belgian William de Smet demonstrated his ability to handle the swiftly changing conditions with a win in the second race. Switzerland's Sebastien Schneiter finished second and Hungary's Benjamin Vadnai took third place.
Gianfranco finished a lowly 19th in the second race, but the Italian youngster managed to hold on to the overall top spot, staying a mere one point ahead of William (2nd) and Sebastien (3rd).
In the girls' contest, Britain's Karyna Manuel, who was leading after the first day's racing, proved too fragile for the tricky conditions on the second day.
She managed a tenth-place finish in the opening race, and fell further in the next race, settling for the 19th position.
The results saw her drop to overall fourth, surrendering her position at the top of the leaderboard to Agata, who swept to victory in both the races.
In the first race, Monika Mikkola of Finland finished second, behind Agata, while Norway's Line Flem Host finished third.
Agata won the second race by an even more convincing margin, finishing well ahead of The Netherlands' Maxime Jonker (2) and Monika (3).
Racing at the Radial Youth World Championship will continue through to Friday with two races scheduled for each day.
