Body of former Indian womanpolitician sent to Kochi from Salalah


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The body of Rosamma Punnoose, a former member of the Kerala legislative assembly and leader of CPI, was airlifted to the southern Indian state of Kerala on Monday.

Rosamma was the first person to be sworn in as legislator soon after the first Kerala Assembly polls in 1957.

She died in Salalah at the Sultan Qaboos Hospital on Saturday morning.

She was staying with her son in Oman.

Rosamma's body was airlifted via an Air India Express flight to Kochi on Monday.

According to her relatives, the body of the late leader will be kept for public homage and will then be buried in her native place in Thiruvalla. Rosamma, who was 100 years old was admitted to the hospital on Friday following chest pain.

Sister of freedom fighter Akamma Cherian, she has worked as the member of women's commission in Kerala, rubber board, planning commission and other government bodies in India.
