UAE - Three drug traffickers held after violent resistance

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In a bold operation, a joint police team foiled a gang's attempt to smuggle drugs, and bravely faced the drug traffickers' aggression. Major-General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Director of the anti-narcotics department of the Dubai Police, said the joint police team managed to foil the transportation of large quantities of drugs from Al Dhaid to Fujairah in an operation named 'Taktuf'. The operation, which was undertaken by the anti-narcotic teams of Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, resulted in the arrests of three UAE nationals. They have been charged with smuggling, possession and promotion of drugs. Additional charges include assaulting police officers on duty. Mahdi said the operation was "full of danger" for the police officials concerned and "reflects the efforts exerted by police officials to combat drugs". The suspects rammed their vehicle into some cars driven by the officers in the team, he said. According to Mahdi, the police received information that one of the suspects, identified as A.M., 23, accompanied by two minors - A.S., 17, and M.S., 16 - would be transporting a large consignment of drugs in Al Dhaid area. Officers from Dubai, Sharjah and RAK Police formed a team and headed to the area. After a long wait, the first suspect was spotted driving his vehicle at a high speed on the highway connecting Dibba and Fujairah. The police team chased him and coordinated with other members of the team to set roadblocks for the suspect's vehicle in an attempt to stop him. The suspect rammed his vehicle into several police cars in a bid to escape. The police finally managed to stop the vehicle on the Dibba-Fujairah Road in Al Manama area of RAK with the aid of security barricades. On searching the three suspects, the police recovered a plastic bag containing 10kg hashish. He praised the role and coordination of RAK police officials, who displayed "courage and efficiency when dealing with the criminals".
