(MENAFN - Arab News) The government will provide all facilities for GCC businessmen and businesswomen intending to invest in the Asir region, said Prince Faisal bin Khaled, governor of the region, on Sunday.
Speaking to the heads of GCC chambers during a reception at his palace, Prince Faisal highlighted the region's tourist attractions and prospects of investing in the tourism sector.
"The tourism potential of Asir will make it a prime target of investors and businessmen," the prince said and urged GCC businessmen to conduct more visits to explore investment opportunities.
More than 60 business leaders and investors in the Gulf Cooperation Council are currently visiting the region to explore prospects of investing in key areas such as tourism, minerals and industry.
Abdullah Al-Mubti, president of the Council of Saudi Chambers, welcomed the GCC businessmen to the region, adding that their visit would open a new chapter of cooperation between the two sides.
"We are making strenuous efforts to encourage GCC businessmen and businesswomen to invest in the region's economic and trade sectors," said Al-Mubti, who is also chairman of the Abha Chamber's board of directors.
He said Asir is ready to host various GCC conferences and events to realize Prince Faisal's dream of making the region a center for sustainable tourism.
"A spate of tourism related projects such as hostels, motels, recreation centers, and hospitals can be implemented in the region," he said.
Khalil Al-Khinji, president of the Federation of GCC Chambers, said GCC businessmen and businesswomen were happy to visit the region to look for investment opportunities.
"We have advised the secretariat to hold the federation's meetings in different cities instead of GCC capitals to see new opportunities," Al-Khinji said.
He urged GCC governments to extend facilities to investors not only to boost their economies but also to create more jobs for their citizens.
Abdul Rahman Naqi, secretary-general of the federation, emphasized the significance of the federation's meeting and thanked Abha Chamber for hosting the event.
