Two arrested for drug possession, promotion in Dubai


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Police received information that two UAE nationals were promoting drugs near Dragon Mart in Dubai. The Dubai Police recently arrested two UAE nationals for possession and promotion of drugs. The General Department of Anti-narcotics Director, Major-General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, said a joint team of Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah Police and the Federal Anti-narcotic Department at the Ministry of Interior made the arrests at the end of November. Police received information that two UAE nationals were promoting drugs near Dragon Mart in Dubai. The two men, S.S., 25, and H.M., 18, work for the same government department. The police team laid a trap near Dragon Mart, after which the duo was arrested. The police found in the their possession almost 5.5kg of hashish and 162g of crystal meth, in addition to large quantities of various types of pills, which were hidden in plastic bags of different sizes in a car. The suspects were referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution and charged with drug possession and promotion. H.M. was also charged with using the drugs after traces of crystal meth were found in his urine. Mahdi praised the police teams which participated in the operation. He also appreciated police teams from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, which coordinated the raid of the two suspects' houses in the Al Yahar area of Al Ain and the Al Shwamkha area of Abu Dhabi.
