(MENAFN - Arab News) The driver of an LPG tanker was killed when his vehicle collided with a tipper truck in Rabigh on Saturday.
Following the accident, the Civil Defense, in coordination with the Road Security Force, closed the road to traffic while several rescue and firefighting teams were sent to the location, a Civil Defense source said. The rescue teams used metal-cutters to extricate the body of the driver from the cabin. The tanker was emptied of the LPG to avoid the possibility of a blast.
In another incident, the Civil Defense evacuated a rented apartment building following a fire that gutted an apartment on the second floor. Rescue teams had to use force to remove the residents of a number of apartments who refused to leave their apartments, arguing that their apartments were not affected. The Civil Defense did not want to take chances.
Eight rescue and firefighting teams participated in the evacuation of the entire building and other rescue operations.
All the residents were taken to the roof and the power supply was switched off before the firefighters extinguished the fire.
Later electricity connection was restored, except for the affected second floor.
