Omani youth must overcome failure, say experts

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Omani youth must overcome fear of failure to do well in life, said experts at an AIESEC Oman organised workshop on Thursday.

The workshop provided a platform for the youth to express their fears and discussed ways to deal with the problems that they encounter while applying for jobs.

Speaking at the workshop, Bader al Lawati, who took part in the ‘2041 Antarctic Youth Programme' earlier this year said, ''Many youth face setbacks in life. However, they must have the courage to accept failure and move ahead with new vigour.''

The workshop was divided into three sessions. In the first session, the workshop focussed on how to tackle failures in life, causes behind the fear of failure and why youth avoid taking risks.

In this session, participants were asked to write down their problems.

Many participants wrote about their fear of appearing for a driving test or writing an examination.

''We all have fears. Some of them are natural while others just in the mind. We have to separate these two and focus on how to get rid of them,'' Lawati said.

The second session talked about the challenges that the current generation is facing in the job market, what employers are looking for in a prospective employee and how to prepare a perfect CV.

Addressing the workshop, Fares al Farsi, the head of recruitment cell at AIESEC Oman said, ''We face various problems with young employees. We had one woman designer who was given an important project to be delivered within a deadline. She just quit one day without submitting the project.

''This created an impression that we will not hire women employees or give important projects to them. This is where we have to improve, we need to have a more professional approach.''

Finally, participants were asked to form groups and tackle one issue. Each group was asked to come out with solutions, the road ahead and how to implement it. Discussions helped participants to tackle different kind of problems in a group.&n
