Oman Post launches SMS alert services

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Post, in collaboration with Tamimah Telecom, has introduced SMS services for postal services and important dates. The first one sends an SMS to a subscriber about parcels or registered post received in his post box. The other, more of a dates and events organiser, alerts the subscriber on important dates like birthdays, anniversaries, festivals, appointments etc.

''Two different kind of SMS services have been introduced. The first one is on notifications and reminders for postal services like parcels, EMS and registered mail. A subscriber to this service will receive an SMS from Oman Post when a registered mail or parcel reaches his post box. Also, a person who has applied for a post box will be informed about his PO box number through SMS,'' said O K Ravi, general manager of Tamimah Telecom.

''The other is an organiser service for personal reminders that one marks on a calendar. For example, if you subscribe for a reminder for your daughter's birthday, Oman Post will send her a birthday message on the scheduled date and also send you an SMS saying that the task has been done,'' he said.

The cost of the organiser service has been kept reasonable. ''Personal alerts or SMS organiser service that does not require a post box number will be available for a nominal fee. Twenty five notifications are available for RO1, 60 notifications for RO2 and 100 for RO3.''

Reminder alert fee for postal services varies from RO5 for individuals to RO60 for big companies.

Besides occasions, this service can be used to remember appointments, dates of vehicle insurance, ownership renewal, passport or visa renewal and date of travel, among others. Anyone can avail this facility, but the one for postal service alerts can be subscribed by only those who have a post box.

Subscription forms have to be filled online at www.sms.omanpost.om. The service covers Muscat governorate and post offices of Sohar, Saham, Shinas, Buraimi, Nizwa, Sur, Salalah, Central Post Office and Saada.

''We are proud to bring this unique concept. Our services will be useful to people who have many things on hand and have a tendency to forget.

''Our services can help people avoid fines, penalties and also bring families and dear ones closer,'' Ravi s
