(MENAFN - Arab News) A doctor who was suspended from his job in the UK is now working in a private Saudi hospital, BBC reported.
A UK court recently banned Dr. Mutasim from working in the British National Health Service after he disfigured the chest of a cancer patient in a botched operation.
According to the court's website, the doctor got his medical certificate from an Iraqi university in Mosul. He was charged with impolite behavior toward the patient in his care and for medical errors while performing a major surgery to remove a tumor.
The operation resulted in disfiguring the patient's chest while the tumor remained in its place.
The court barred Mutasim from medical practice for one year and 28 days.
According to the verdict, he could return to work on Nov. 12 this year. But following a review of his case, the ban was extended until the end of 2014.
The criterion for hiring foreign doctors in the Kingdom is limited to verifying their academic and professional documents and does not extend to checking their records for any medical errors or sanctions taken against them in the past.
