(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai has further expanded its e-services by enabling customers to get their licenses issued online.

The new facility will add further convenience and competitiveness to doing business and investing in Dubai.

"DED is committed to providing customers with quick and easy access to government services in line with the 'Smart City' initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai," said Ahmed Ibrahim, director of Business Registration and Licensing (BRL), DED.

Ibrahim added that businessmen and investors will find it easier to complete their DED transactions from the comfort of their office or home using their registered DED account with the new feature added on the DED website. "An additional attraction of the new feature is that customers can get their licenses issued even when they are out of the country," he said.

DED has been building a comprehensive e-services portfolio in addition to services offered over the counter across its network of branch offices and customer service agent locations in various parts of Dubai. An increasing number of BRL services are also accessible as smart phone applications. The new feature will be a significant value addition for business owners and investors as it will help them save valuable time and effort. The initiative also reflects DED's persistent efforts to enhance the UAE's top rankings in the World Bank's 'Doing Business' Report.

An internationally competitive and competent business registration system that offers added value and flexible procedures is one of the criteria against which countries are ranked in the Doing Business Report.

"Our focus is on progressively bringing all BRL services on to the e-services platform. Such improvements in service efficiencies are part of the overall strategy of Dubai and essential to demonstrating the ease of doing business and competitiveness, which Dubai emphasises as its key advantages as a business destination," said Ibrahim.
