Oman ends with rich medal haul in regional Special Olympics


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's boys and girls put up an impressive show in the Special Olympics regional session, finishing with a rich haul of 30 medals at the end of three days of action at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) and Fun Zone, Qurum on Wednesday.

The sultanate's tennis contingent claimed 14 medals across various divisions - bagging seven gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

In the bowling event, the Omanis were equally dominant in various divisions, sweeping 16 medals - winning three gold, seven silver and six bronze medals.

In men's single division A in tennis, Oman's Aiman Makhas beat Egypt's Mustafa Ahmad 5-4 to take gold.

In the same event, Egypt's Khalid Abdul Hamid took bronze after beating Oman's Fawas Medit 5-4.

Also, Oman's Raya al Hasni took gold in women's singles division A, while Egypt's Mary Magdi took silver and Oman's Wafa al Amri took bronze.

In mixed doubles division A, Oman's Fawas Medit and Wafa beat compatriot Ahmed al Zidi and Raya 5-4 to take gold.

Egypt's Ahmad and Rahma Khalid took bronze.

Oman's Zidi and Aiman Makhas took gold in men's doubles division A.

Egypt's Ahmad and Ibrahim al Koli took silver, while fellow countrymen Mohammed Gafar and Khalid Abdulhamid took bronze.

Speaking to Muscat Daily on Wednesday, Salman al Balushi, technical committee head of the tennis event, said, "The event has been a big success. What makes it most special for us is that Omani boys and girls have won so many medals."
