Saudi - Riyadh launches road safety campaign

(MENAFN - Arab News) The Riyadh Traffic Department launched field campaigns in public squares and neighborhoods as part of its efforts to enhance traffic rule abidance in Riyadh. Col. Abdullah Al-Dabekhi, Riyadh traffic director, said that the Riyadh Traffic Department has devised plans to implement intensified field campaigns across neighborhoods to raise abidance of traffic rules and address violations that might endanger the safety of pedestrians. Al-Dabeikhi said field traffic campaigns will not make any exceptions for traffic violators. Traffic teams will apply regulations that ensure driver and pedestrian safety, especially in areas with no CCTV cameras, in addition to implementing penalties for failing to wear seat belts, running red lights or using mobile phones while driving. Teams will also stand up to violations related to parking in no-parking areas to ensure smooth traffic. During a tour of Riyadh neighborhoods, Lt. Col. Mohammad bin Nasir Al-Qraini, head of traffic at the Riyadh Traffic Directorate, said field campaigns will continue in all neighborhoods to ensure the full implementation of the system and reduce the numbers of violations.
