(MENAFN - Arab News) Brig. Salem Al-Mutairi, director of Civil Defense in Jeddah, recently announced that fire accidents in Jeddah have dropped 80-90 percent in the previous months.
He attributed the decrease to the routine inspections carried out by Civil Defense teams on establishments to ensure that they are complying with safety procedures as well as the existence of fire extinguishers and other safety equipment in public spaces.
Al-Mutairi was speaking at a seminar highlighting the importance of preventive measures at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI). Members at the JCCI's safety committee, the Civil Defense team and a number of businessmen attended the seminar.
The seminar outlined the measures that need to be taken in factories and warehouses, means of protecting properties from fire accidents, and the necessary safety equipment that should be present in establishments to prevent accidents.
The Civil Defense team outlined safety regulations that establishments should adhere by.
Al-Mutairi stressed that petrol stations need to strictly follow the safety procedures stipulated by the Civil Defense.
"There are almost 650 petrol station in Jeddah, which work around the clock to serve motorists. We strongly urge them to comply with the safety regulations in order to protect lives and property," he said.
