Survey to make changes in Omani Labour Law begins

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Manpower (MoM) is conducting a public survey to receive feedback and suggestions on the Omani Labour Law. The survey, directed at both Omanis and expatriates, is posted on MoM's portal www.manpower.gov.om, as well as on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

''Through this survey, the ministry is inviting feedback and suggestions from the general public on the current law and ways we can improve on it. It began on December 17 and will continue until December 29. It is open to both Omanis and expatriates,'' an official at MoM said.

The statement on MoM website related to the survey reads: ‘MoM, in cooperation with the production parties, is in the process of reviewing and updating the current Labour Law issued by Royal Decree 35/2003. Thus, MoM invites you to participate in the survey to share your opinion, feedback about the current Labour Law, and also to give suggestions for future improvement.'

The survey has 18 questions over three web pages. The first page has a set of seven questions. These include multiple-choice questions as well as questions related to age, nationality, gender, education and employment.

The second page has five queries. These include questions that have to be answered with ‘yes', ‘no', or ‘don't know' as well as those asking for suggestions. Some of these are: ‘Does the Labour Law help and facilitate hiring process of citizens in the private sector?', Do the current Labour Law regulations help expatriates in organising their work in the private sector? and ‘Does the Labour Law meet the standards that relate to employment of women and juveniles?'

The set of six questions on page three follows the same pattern as the second. The survey ends with ‘any other suggestions and feedback' from
