Oman, Italy economic ties growing, says H E Paola


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) C H E Paola Amadei, Ambassador of Italy to the sultanate has commended the growing relations between the two countries in all fields, particularly in the trade and investment areas.

She was addressing a press conference, on Sunday, on the occasion of the visit of the 30th Italian Naval Group to the sultanate.

H E Paola said that such a visit would help enhance ties, particularly this one as the flotilla is hosting an exhibition by the Italian companies.

To boost cooperation, she said that a memorandum of understanding signed between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the Italian Chamber of Commerce has paved the way for further economic cooperation between the two sides.

She pointed out that OCCI has been invited to organise a meeting between Omani businessmen and their Italian counterparts in Rome next year to review investment opportunities in both countries.

Rear Admiral Paolo Treu, commander of the 30th Italian Naval Group said that both countries share a lot in terms of maritime history and civilisational heritage.

He said that the visit of the naval group comes within the framework of a campaign titled, ‘A Country on the Move' during which it will tour the Arabian Gulf. The tour will end in Africa on April 7, 2014.

He added that the group comprises the aircraft carrier Cavour, supply ship Etna, frigate Bergamini and patrol ship Borsini.

At the end of the press conference, representatives of the Italian companies gave a briefing on the services offered by them.

On the sidelines of the visit of the naval group, H E Paola opened the exhibition of the Italian firms onboard Cavour.

Earlier in the day, H E Sayyid Saud bin Hilal bin Hamad al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat received in his office Rear Admiral Treu.

During the meeting, H E Busaidi and Rear Admiral Treu discussed issues of common concern. H E Busaidi affirmed the deep-rooted relations between the two countries. He also gave a briefing to Rear Admiral Treu on the governorate of Muscat and its role in serving the community, as well as the historic, tourist and civilisational landmarks in different wilayats here.

Rear Admiral Treu expressed his admiration for unique civilisational landmarks in the governorate and valued the pioneering role being pursued by the Omani government under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in pushing the development agenda forward.

The naval group is visiting Port Sultan Qaboos from December 21 to 25.
