(MENAFN) Russia's Gazprom announced that oil production from its first Arctic offshore field commenced, The Peninsula reported.
The country's president said that the Arctic offshore fields are strategic for Russia, as the country produces 10.6 million barrels per day (bpd).
Gazprom's Chief Executive Officer said: "We became the pioneers of Russia's Arctic development."
