UAE - Boy, grandfather killed in Dubai car crash

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The student and parent community here were plunged into gloom on Thursday after a 12th standard student of a Dubai school died in an early morning car accident. Aliasger Yusuf DhamangamwalaAliasger Yusuf Dhamangamwala, who had just received his driving licence after he turned 18 in September, was driving to the airport from his Meadows II home when the accident happened near Sports City. The teen was travelling to the airport to pick up his father who had arrived from India. Aliasger's grandfather, who was travelling with him, also died in the accident. The Dhamangamwala family hails from Mumbai and the father is a businessman reportedly dealing in oil field supplies. Teachers and students as well as parents who turned up for Thursday's Open House at Gems Modern Academy, where Aliasger studied, expressed shock after learning the tragic news. Friends and parents remembered his last day in the school. "Aliasger was a very lovable friend and a good student who was to take his board exams in March. He had even deactivated his Facebook account to concentrate on studies. "He was a football player wearing the goalkeeper jersey for the school," one student said. He said Aliasger, who had been with Modern since 2004, was better known among students as a dependable event organiser. "Just yesterday he made his presence felt at the music competition by managing the light and sound system," another student said. One parent from Meadows said Aliasger will be remembered for his gentle and helping nature. "My son used to go to Aliasger who was good in economics for clearing doubts, and that boy was always ready to help," said the mother of one of Aliasger's schoolmates and friends in the Meadows. "Aliasger was a very helpful boy and was like a brother to everyone. All teachers loved him," said a girl student and his busmate. "My daughter is quite shocked. It is very tragic and unfortunate," her mother added.
