Oman Sail teams gain experience in Bahrain

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Sail's two entries - the Al Thuraya bank muscat all-women's team and the national men's offshore sailing team - have returned home after gaining valuable experience and training opportunities at the annual Kingdom Match Race Championship in Bahrain from December 15-21.

The six-member men's team, comprising skipper Mohsin al Busaidi, Nasser al Mashari, Fahad al Hosni, Ali al Balushi, Mohammed al Mukhaini and Mohammed al Mujaini, finished 11th overall in the event.

Skipper Raja'a al Owaisi and the all-Omani crew of Raiya al Habsi, Asrar al Ajmi, Ibtisam al Salmi and debutant Hajar al Omrani finished 16th overall. It was the second successive participation of the all-women team.

The two teams were among 16 international teams that took part in the event held at the Bahrain Sailing Club near Al Jazayer Beach in Zallaq.

Busaidi said, ''For both our teams, the goal was to gain more experience and improve our levels of expertise in this highly demanding discipline. We came home knowing that we have done well over the four days there. We achieved way more than we expected.''

Raja'a said, ''We had some hard decisions to make because of the strong winds that reached around 30 knots. But it was good practice for us - to learn from our mistakes and later to review them.''<
