Omanis make up over 46 of visitors from GCC, saysMunich airport survey

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Among European destinations popular with Omanis is Munich. A passenger survey carried out by Munich International Airport has shown that more than 46 per cent of arrivals from the GCC originated from Oman in 2012.

The survey also shows that the airport had 2,900 passengers (one-way) originating from Oman during the same period.

''It's for sure that the real number has to be higher,'' Oliver Dersch, director, traffic development at Business Division Aviation of Munich International Airport said.

The statistics also showed that 165,198 arrivals at the Munich airport from the Gulf were headed to Bavaria and that 38 per cent of the total tourists to the region were from GCC.

Statistics also show that of major German cities, Munich gets the highest number of arrivals from the Gulf (139,843), followed by Frankfurt ( 85,367), Berlin (28,109) and Hamburg (25,044). ''It shows the huge potential the Munich region offers for Omani travellers, especially compared with the enormous numbers shown in the Gulf study,'' Dersch added.

When it came to overnight stays by GCC tourists, Bavaria topped with 529,291, followed by Hesse region (224,126), North Rhine-Westphalia (163,134) and  Berlin with 88,776. <
