NHRC secures release ofOmani detained in Mumbai


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The sultanate's National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has secured the release of an Omani national detained in Mumbai after authorities at the city's airport allegedly found a bullet in his possession.

Ibrahim bin Mohammed al Hadhrami was detained on December 7 when he arrived in India for treatment. He was to be produced in court on December 12, but the hearing was postponed to December 16 due to absence of the judge.

Acting promptly on news circulated on social media, NHRC got in touch with Hadhrami's son, who was accompanying him, and Abdullah al Hadi, assistant consul in Mumbai, who confirmed the news, a release said.

NHRC then asked his family to file an official complaint and kept in constant touch with the man's son to ensure the detainee got a fair trial and access to a doctor since he was a diabetic. After the family filed a complaint, NHRC contacted the concerned human rights body in India. The citizen was released on a bail of RO125.
