(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The corporate governance model implemented by Oman Fisheries Company has been adjudged the best in the Industry category by the Capital Market Authority (CMA) and the company was bestowed the Corporate Governance Excellence Award for 2013 instituted by CMA's Oman Centre for Corporate Governance.
The award was presented by Yahya bin Said al Jabri, chairman, CMA, who is also chairman of the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm, at a function held at Grand Hyatt, Muscat, attended by ministers and company board members. Mohammed bin Hamad bin Ali al Masrouri, chairman, Oman Fisheries, said, ''Oman Fisheries has strived to follow the best corporate governance principles, keeping in mind the best interests of internal and external stakeholders, and guided by a heightened sense of accountability and ethical board practices. This award is a testimony to our corporate values and practices.''
This is the second time in a row that Oman Fisheries' corporate governance practices have been acknowledged by CMA. The company bagged the second prize in the last edition of the awards held in 2011. The largest processor and exporter of seafood in Oman, the ISO 9001:2008 and HACCP certified Oman Fisheries had recently revamped its Corporate Social Responsibility programme to meet ISO 26000 requirements, one of the many moves aimed at bringing its corporate governance to international standards of excellence.
The company has also developed a Competency Framework aimed at nurturing the company's leadership and management talent pool, considered as a strategic driver of its Integrated Human Capital Policy.
