(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Sharjah International Airport on Monday held a meeting with all its stakeholders, updating them on the ongoing developments within the terminal and the facilities for the year 2013/2014.
The meeting was held at the main building of the Department of Civil aviation and Sharjah Airport Aviation and attended by Dr Ghanem Al Hajri, chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority; Ali Salim Al Midfa, director general of Sharjah Airport Authority; Tony Smith, general manager of Sharjah Aviation Services; and Department of Civil Aviation officials.
Al Hajri said: "One of our top priorities is to ensure that our passengers who are using the services and facilities of Sharjah International Airport are met and handled efficiently and smoothly."
The meeting highlighted ongoing developments such as additional check in desks at the terminal to meet the increase in demands from the existing and upcoming carriers, which is underway; level three baggage screening, which will avoid the present congestion at the entrance and long standing passenger queues; the status of the second runway; and changes to airport infrastructure.
Smith said: "We are proud to announce that all business/first class passengers will be checked in at our premium counter stationed near to the escalator at the departure entrance."
It also highlighted the ongoing developments at the cargo terminal and cargo facilities, like the introduction of ULD screening at T1 and T3, E-clearance mechanism. The airport reiterated its commitment to be ACC3 and RA3 compliant in time for next year as per EU requirement.
