Qatar - National Day/ State Audit Bureau Keeps Watchful Eye on the Public Funds


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The State Audit Bureau is the official institution which is responsible for auditing the public funds and seeks through its vision derived from the provisions of the Constitution and the Qatar National Vision 2030, to promote accountability, transparency and good management of public money , which would contribute to achieving sustainable development and the welfare of the society . Based on this concept, the Bureau has carried preceding audits on 653 tenders and contracts whose values is QR 2.8 billion Its role also extends to cover reviewing expenses incurred in the implementation of those contracts The Bureau's representatives have participated in the work of 56 tender committees, which deal either with ministries, government agencies, councils and public bodies With regard to the investigation of cases of public funds, the Bureau continued during the year 2012-2013 to cooperate with the Public Prosecution in four cases forwarded to it by the latter, which were sent to the courts or the Public Prosecution The Government Sector Audit Department has carried out 43 audit checks on the general budget final account for the fiscal year 2009-2010 and a number of ministries by auditing salaries and wages for the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Social Affairs and the Environment , Interior, the Public Works Authority, General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority, the Shura Council, the Central Municipal Council, the Private Engineering Office (PEO) and central services It has also audited the expenditures of the Ministries of Energy and Industry, the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF), the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA), Qatar's 2022 World Cup organizing committee, the Qatar of Statistics Authority, the National Commission for Human Rights,Qatar Race Club , the Expo Shanghai and the operating expenses of Doha International Airport During the same period, the Bureau has as well conducted audit revenues of the ministries of Municipality and Urban Planning, the Environment, Interior, Culture, Arts and Heritage and Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA). The Economic Sector Audit Department has carried out 31 audit checks on companies and economic and financial service institutions. The audit checks also included the General Postal Corporation, Al-Jazeera Network, the Qatar Foundation for Media, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence, and Qatar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital (Aspetar), Aspire Logistic, Katara Cultural Village, Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), Qatargas and Qatar Vinyl Company.
