(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Al Bashayer Club clinched the men's title in the inaugural OAA Cross Country Cup, which was organised by the Oman Athletics Association (OAA) in Barka recently.
The one-day cross country running event witnessed nearly 120 athletes from various clubs across the sultanate compete in three categories - men's (12km), U19 (8km) and U16 (5km).
Al Suwaiq Club came second and Al Wahda Club took the third place in the men's event.
Bashayer's Ashraf Rashid claimed the top individual honours in the men's section, winning the race in 43m00.98s.
He was closely followed by his clubmate and national team long-distance champion Qais al Mahrouqi (43m10.27s). Wahda's Abdullah Salim claimed bronze in 43m39.61s.
In the U19 section, Al Ittefaq Club won the overall title and was followed by Ibri Club.
In the individual category, Ittefaq's Amjad al Balushi won the 8km race in 29m02.71s and was followed by his clubmates on the podium. Said al Rahbi (30m15.03s) and Salim al Rawahi (30m20.03s) finished second and third, respectively.
The U16 club title was clinched by Ittefaq, while Sohar Club and Al Khabourah Club came second and third, respectively.
Sohar's runners swept the podium places in the individual section with Abdullah al Shibli emerging the fastest runner over the 5km distance in 19m06.73s.
Majid al Miqbali (19m06.77s) and Mutassim al Miqbali (19m07.21s) finished runner-up and third, respectively.
H H Sayyid Malik bin Shihab al Said presented the awards in the presence of Sheikh Saif al Hosni, the OAA chairman, and other board members.
