Omani video game downloaded over 6,000 times within days of release

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Let's Go Run, a game set in Muttrah Souq, has been downloaded over 6,000 times till Monday on the iOS App Store, since its release on Saturday.

Of these, 2,000 downloads were in Oman. The Android version should be available from Tuesday. Sami al Moharbi, Let's Go Run's self-taught sole creator worked on the game, his first, for three months.

Only the music was outsourced, said Moharbi. ''As an avid video game fan, I noticed a trend. More and more games are set in Arabian locales. I thought that Muttrah Souq would be a perfect setting as it's a place steeped in history, yet remains relevant today not only for tourism, but also as a trading hub. Since I didn't want to offend people by taking too many photographs, I got pictures off the Internet and set to work.''

The free game, which follows the popular first person format of 'run' games, has characters sprinting through the souq while avoiding bumping into people and obstacles. ''Two of the characters are based on real people – ten year old boy Qusai and four year old girl Reem. Moharbi is currently working on three more games. ''My new games will be multi-player and people from all over the world will be able to play, provided they have good connectivity. The game, Balloon War will have regular updates, Space Race will basically be a racing game with spacecrafts and Finish Him will be a fighting game. All these games will be released in the first half of next year.''

He said the feedback from friends, family and gamers has been positive.

''Let's Go Run has been rated 4.9 out of 5 on Google Play.  As with most free games, players will have the option to buy upgrades in the form of coin packs over the Internet. I only get a few baizas, probably no more than 10bz per download. So people can support me by buying those upgrades in the ‘shop' section of the game m
