S. Korea, US to Discuss Korean Peninsula Affairs in Washington


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) South Korea and the US will hold strategic, vice-ministerial talks on Tuesday in Washington. The two sides will discuss Korean Peninsula and global affairs including movement in North Korea following the execution of Kim Jong-un's uncle Jang Song-thaek. South Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kyou-hyun and Deputy US Secretary of State William Burns will lead the talks, according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website. The two are expected to talk about North Korea's future power structure and denuclearizing the country. Kim and Burns will also discuss boosting dialogue with China to prevent the escalation of instability on the Korean Peninsula. The two sides will also assess their bilateral alliance, which celebrated its 60th anniversary this year. They will also coordinate other issues including the scheduled transfer of wartime operational command from the US to South Korean forces.
