Oman Insurance hosts seminar for Chinese business community

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Insurance Co (OIC), one of the leading insurers in the Middle East, organised a seminar in Oman to introduce its activities in the region and its newly established 'China Desk' to Chinese companies operating in the sultanate.

The seminar, organised on Saturday, was attended by nearly 30 Chinese businessmen and officials from the Chinese embassy in Muscat as well as the OIC top management.

The audience was briefed on the company's operations in the region, its offerings and how it is serving the needs of Chinese companies and businessmen in the region.

Speaking to Muscat Daily on the sidelines of the event, Patrick Choffel, chief executive officer of OIC, said the Chinese business community is very active in the region and their presence is continuously growing in Oman's construction and infrastructure sector.

OIC recently set up a dedicated 'China Desk' to service Chinese companies in all the markets it operates in the region.

''We set up the ‘China Desk' to service our Chinese friends in countries where we operate, including Oman. All the Chinese companies operating here need insurance solutions, among other things, and our objective is to introduce them to our solutions and to tell them that we are ready to service them as per their needs. We are already doing business with a number of Chinese companies,'' said Choffel.

''The China Desk was started recently and we expect more activity in 2014. Our competitive advantage is that we are one of the biggest insurers in the region, we have very strong capacity and best rating in the market and also have a very strong multinational team. So we can efficiently work with Chinese companies and businessmen in the region,'' he said.

''In Oman, Chinese companies are well established in construction and infrastructure, while in other markets in the region they are very active in oil and petroleum sectors. Their presence is growing fast.'' Choffel added that OIC is looking to set up two more branches in Salalah and Sohar in 2014.

''I think the Oman market is meant to grow as the insurance regulator is guiding  the insurance community well to manage a profitable market,'' he added.

Headquartered in Dubai, OIC is the largest insurance company in UAE, and one of the leading insurance providers in the Middle
