American Airlines orders 60 Embraer jets

(MENAFN- AFP) Brazil's top aircraft maker Embraer on Thursday said it had received an order for 60 E175 jets from American Airlines in a contract valued at $2.5 billion.

Embraer said in a statement that the deal includes an option for American Airlines to buy another 90 E175s, which could bring the total order to up to 150 aircraft.

Delivery of the first aircraft is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015.

Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO Paulo Cesar Silva hailed the deal and described the E175, a narrow-body, medium-range twin-engine jet as "the most fuel-efficient, cost-effective and passenger-friendly 76-seater on the market today."

This year, including this latest order from American Airlines, Embraer said it has received orders and options for more than 700 E-jets from US airlines.

Embraer is the world's third largest commercial aircraft manufacturer behind Boeing and Airbus.
