An Emirati man shot and wounded his 47-year-old wife following a fierce family dispute late on Tuesday in Ras Al Khaimah. The 55-year-old man opened fire after a heated argument with his wife at their house at about 10.30pm, a top police officer told reporters on Wednesday.
Colonel Abdullah Ali MankhasColonel Abdullah Ali Mankhas, Director of Criminal Investigations of RAK Police, said the victim's son rushed to his mother's aid after he heard the gunshot. "The man also unintentionally shot himself, while his son was attempting to prevent him from killing his mother."
The Central Operations Room, having been alerted of the violence, dispatched police patrols, ambulance and rescue teams to the spot. "The wife was shot twice in different parts of her body, and was rushed to the hospital for treatment and medical care," Colonel Mankhas said, adding that investigations showed the violence occurred as a result of a family dispute.
"The case has been referred to the RAK Public Prosecution for legal action," he said. Col Mankhas urged all couples - Emiratis and residents - to settle their issues in an amicable way by indulging in peaceful dialogues. "Violence, in any form, may hurt and even kill innocent and dear people."
Pregnant woman safe after accident en route to hospital
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Arab woman escaped death after she had a "terrible traffic accident" while she was on her way to the maternity ward to deliver her child.
A Civil Defence source here said the woman, identified as W.T., developed labour pains and was driving to the hospital, when her car collided with another on Tuesday at around 12.15pm in the Nakheel area of RAK.
"The young woman was rushed to the hospital, where she and her child are safe and recuperating," the source said. The RAK Police have initiated investigations to identify the cause of the accident.
