(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The Dubai Police have denied the news in some sections of the media regarding an alleged assault of a Saudi national at the Dubai International Airport.

A top police official said a passenger, accompanied by two friends, arrived at the airport after the check-in time. As the gates had been closed, the authorities cancelled his travel plans and asked them to leave the airport, following which they created a ruckus in the transit hall of the airport, the official said.

Ali bin Lahij of the General Department of Airport Security said the passenger insisted on being allowed to board the flight, which the airline employee refused. When things got worse, the employee called in the police. "Police officials arrived at the scene immediately and explained to the passenger that airlines have to maintain their scheduled times and that they cannot travel after the last call. The Dubai Police dealt in a civilised way with the passenger and offered him the choice to travel in the next aircraft or leave the airport."

However the passenger did not understand this and continued to argue. They finally left after the police and airline employees managed to calm him down. Bin Lahij categorically denied reports of assault on the passenger.

Bin Lahij said all employees of Dubai airports are civilised, respect passengers and deal with customers in a professional manner, as per international standards. "All employees have attended advanced training on how to deal with passengers. These employees represent the civilised image of Dubai. Some passengers, however, do not take care of flight schedules and don't abide by the rules and regulations."
