Students participate in Business Enterprise Day and reap the rewards


(MENAFNEditorial) Students from the Victoria International School of Sharjah (VISS) showed their entrepreneurial spirit with hands-on real life experience of running their own business when they participated in 'Business Enterprise Day' at Dubai Festival City. The selected entrepreneurial students from Grades 10 - 12 showcased, marketed and sold their products to the general public during the monthly ARTE Market, which is held as part of the Community Arts Market (CAM). The event was a great success with each of the six participating companies set up by the students, generating a profit. Ahead of the ARTE Market, students were invited to pitch their ideas and after a rigorous selection process teams were selected to participate in the initiative. The students were asked to continue with the development and production of their ideas, handling everything right from the production, display and marketing to selling the products on the day. The Business Enterprise Day initiative compliments the business studies curriculum at VISS and is a rewarding experience to all students participating. Sajid Hussain, Head of Business and Enterprise and Careers Guidance Counsellor at VISS was delighted to see the strong response from students who came prepared to implement what they learned throughout the year. "The best way to infuse and encourage entrepreneurial passion in students is to expose their creativity in a challenging environment. The school's aim is to help the students develop the necessary skills to enter the business world by supporting them with guidance and advice needed. We believe this experience represents an amazing chance to expand their knowledge and understanding of the real working environment." He said. The following six teams participated in the event, introducing, developing and producing an array of innovative products: •Pink! – Handmade, colourful jewellery and greeting cards, just in time for the holiday season! •World Eye Photography – Artistic prints from VISS' very own amateur photographers •Precious Words – Creating unique, bespoke prints of words that matter to you the most. A must buy! •Remery – Selling home-made, hand-crafted frames and mugs. A perfect gift! •Gamy – Providing you with a chance to 'make your bracelets, anklets and necklaces. Your taste, your style. •Heritage Perfumes – Look good, smell good – selling an array of specially blended Arabian perfumes and Oud Dr Roderick Crouch, Principal at VISS, said Victoria International School of Sharjah is always looking for opportunities promote entrepreneurialism among its students and help and encourage them to pursue their future endeavors. "They are a great group of students and it was wonderful to see them put their entrepreneurial skills to test by turning their ideas into winning projects. VISS provides enterprise and business education to enable all our students to develop the skills needed to become the successful business leaders of the future", he said. Parents expressed their delight at watching their loved ones experience a real life working environment: "It was really exciting to these business leaders of the future take their first step in the business world with this experience", said the parent of student Hadil Abu Auida. "My son loved the classes and he feels really excited to start working now. He began preparing a long time ago for this very positive step into his future and I am really impressed with his efforts." Grade 12 student Mohamed Alnoimi who participated in the day felt that students learned important lessons about leadership, creativity, taking risks, working as a team and handling pressure. "I felt that Business Enterprise Day was very beneficial experience for my future. I feel much more confident starting my own business when I graduate from the school. Becoming an entrepreneur requires a lot of effort and determination, something I learned extremely well from my teachers at the school who helped throughout this process." Zakaria Khan, grade 11 added: "Business Enterprise Day was the short-term journey that shows you that with hard work comes great satisfaction. I always felt nervous speaking in public, but I was encouraged to become a much better speaker and I feel much more confident now having completed this day with success.
