8 men arrested for attacking Emirati in Umm Al Quwain

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Umm Al Quwain Police recently arrested eight men for attacking a 28-year-old Emirati with knives and swords. The accused - six Emirati nationals, a Gulf citizen and a Comoros Islands citizen - attacked the victim, identified as H.S.S, in the Hamra locality last Wednesday. H.S.S, a resident of Sharjah, had a dispute with one of the suspects, after he was spotted robbing some items from H.S.S's auto garage in the UAQ Industrial Area. Major Obaid bin Fadhil, Chief of the City Police Station, on Tuesday said the eight suspects were detained 48 hours after the crime was committed. "The accused, who have criminal records, admitted to the crime, and were referred to the UAQ Public Prosecution for legal action." The victim told the police that an Indian worker witnessed one of the accused climbing out of his auto garage three weeks ago after midnight. "He (the suspect) reportedly stole auto spare parts, accessories and some tyres, which belonged to a customer, and hid them in his car with the help of another man. H.S.S said the Indian worker noted down the number plate of the robber's car, which he passed on to the police." Since the victim knew the suspect, he tried him on his phone, but found it switched off. He then called the suspect on his landline and told his mother that her son had robbed some items from his garage. He threatened to notify the police if the items were not returned. The suspect then called H.S.S and admitted to the robbery, but told him that he had already sold everything. "The family of the suspect tried to settle the dispute in an amicable way, but I refused and insisted that I would take the case to court." On the day of the crime, a friend of the suspect called the victim and said he wanted to meet him to settle the dispute. "I, along with my friend, waited for the man at the Hamra locality," the victim said. The robber, his brother, and six other people arrived armed with weapons in three cars. "The robber's brother suddenly hit me with a sword on my left hand, and then all the accused assaulted me with swords, knives, and iron bars." Saeed informed the Central Operations Room of the UAQ Police, who immediately dispatched a patrol, an ambulance and rescue teams to the spot. He was taken to the UAQ Hospital for treatment, where he is currently recuperating. He has a fracture in his left hand, along with some bruises and injuries.
