(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Muscat International Airport will open up more areas for public parking from January 1 in a move that could improve traffic movement and ease parking woes.
Revised parking rates too will come into effect from the new year.
The Oman Airports Management Authority (OAMC) has decided to reserve Car Park 1 for staff vehicles and merge Car Parks 2 and 3 to accommodate more public vehicles.
Faisal al Mamari, retail manager, commercial operations, OAMC, said, ''This will primarily ensure that there is availability of parking as this has remained a problem. The move will also help in traffic movement. The new parking will be suitable for long-term and short-term parking, looking at which the tariffs have been revised.''
The parking rate will be 500bz for an hour and will increase by 500bz every 30 minutes thereafter up to five and a half hours. The 24 hour rate will increase to RO5 from the current RO2.
Currently, the parking area has three slots and charges vary from 300bz to 500bz for short term parking.
