U.S. shares opened and closed in red color on Tuesday trading amid a status of uncertainty among investors regarding Fed stimulus and budget talks.

Budget talks will grab attention as Congressional officials have a deadline of Dec. 13 to clinch a deal to trim automatic spending cuts.

In addition, data released last week showed remarkable progress in the world’s biggest economy, most notably the labor market figures.

Eyes will focus on the Dec. 17-18 Fed meeting amid expectations the improvement in data would prompt policymakers to start unwinding stimulus this month.

Standard and Poor’s dropped 0.32% to reach 1802.62 points, as of 16:15 EST.

As of 16:15 EST, Dow Jones edged down 0.33% to 15973.13 points, and NASDAQ plunged 0.20% to 4060.49 points.
