Omanis, Saudis and Qataris won't need visas for short-term UK visits from January 1, 2014

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) From January 1, 2014, Omani passport holders can travel to the UK with an electronic visa waiver (EVW) document that allows them a six-month visit to that country without a visa. This was announced by William Hague, British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on Monday during his visit to the sultanate.

"The UK and Oman share a uniquely close relationship not just between our governments, but also between our people. I am therefore, very pleased to say that the new EVW scheme, which will allow quick and simple access to the UK, will be available for Omani passport holders from January 1, 2014. This reflects the UK's firm desire to continue to strengthen relationship with Oman."

Applying for an EVM is free and quicker. Travellers do not require to provide their biometrics, visit a visa application centre or hand in passport before travel. The document is issued immediately via a secure website and can be obtained online from anywhere in the world. Travellers must complete their EVW application online at least 48 hours before departure and present a printed copy at departure and again on arrival in the UK.

The EVW document is only valid for single entry on the date and time specified. The details on the document must match exactly with the holder's passport. It will not be for those going to the UK for work or study.

Those who travel frequently, at short notice or need to re-enter the UK as part of the same trip have been advised to apply for a multi-entry visitor visa or a longer-term visa.

Saudi and Qatari passport holders too can travel to the UK on an EVW document.
