(MENAFN - Arab News) Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah is a respected figure worldwide for his attempts to promote regional and global peace, a leading Thai official said recently.
This was the view expressed by Wijak Chittarat, charg d'affaires and head of mission at the Thailand Embassy, during the 86th birthday celebrations of the country's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, which also marks the nation's National Day. The event is held on Dec. 5 every year.
Chittarat said Saudi Arabia has undergone remarkable economic and social progress under King Abdullah. He said Thailand and Saudi Arabia share many characteristics. "Both our kingdoms have a well-respected monarch," he said.
"King Abdullah's endeavors are not limited to the country's borders. The king is internationally recognized as an advocate of global cooperation, seeking to resolve conflicts in the Arab and Islamic world, and forging friendships with countries around the globe," the Thai envoy said.
Referring to his country's achievements under its monarch, Chittarat said that since King Adulyadej's accession to the throne in 1946, he has dedicated his life to improving the economy of the country.
"I believe in the potential for growth between Thailand and Saudi Arabia. There is much we can work on together," he said.
Azzam bin Abdul Karim Al-Gain, chief of protocol at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was the guest of honor at the event. Members of the diplomatic corps also attended.
