(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The Abu Dhabi finance prosecution ordered the two culprits be remanded in police custody until the trial commences.

The Abu Dhabi Financial Crimes Prosecution has referred two Asian men to the Criminal Court on the charges of forging 53 credit cards, defrauding people and stealing others' money.

The two accused have also been charged with swindling and attempted fraud. The Abu Dhabi finance prosecution ordered the two culprits be remanded in police custody until the trial commences.

The investigation conducted by the Abu Dhabi Financial Crimes Prosecution showed that the duo had entered the country on a visit visa and brought with them forged credit cards to use to purchase items in the country.

The accused managed to purchase a handbag worth Dh11,000 from an upmarket shop and also tried to buy a valuable watch, priced at Dh186,000. The watch salesman became suspicious of the duo, and called the police.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they searched the two suspects and found in their possession 53 duplicated credit cards. Both men were arrested on the spot.

Upon the officers' discovery of the cards, the duo admitted to the police officers that they had forged the credit cards in a bid to deprive the original credit cards' owners out of their money. One of the accused later confessed that he disposed of a number of other fake credit cards after he asked the policeman if he could use the toilet in the police station.

An official source at the Abu Dhabi Attorney General's office clarified that the economic stand that the country has arrived at attracted gangsters to commit their crimes here.

The official urged managers and owners of trading shops to be alert and vigilant while dealing with holders of credit cards, especially those issued outside the country. "Should a shop manager suspect something wrong, he should report the matter to the bodies concerned right away," the official advised.
