Partner in Charge Change for Baker Botts In Middle East

(MENAFNEditorial) Baker Botts has announced that effective January 1, 2014, Senior Partner, John Lonsberg, will assume the post of Partner in Charge for the Baker Botts Middle East offices. John follows Partner in Charge Bob Jordan, who spent the past four years leading Baker Botts' Middle East offices. The firm expects Bob Jordan to return to the Dallas, US office of the firm after a transition period. "Bob has provided invaluable service to our firm and has made a significant contribution in moving our strategic plan forward," said Baker Botts Managing Partner Andrew Baker. "I want to thank Bob personally for his leadership in the Middle East. He has made an outstanding contribution to the success of the firm over the years, and exemplifies a standard of excellence that is a trademark of Baker Botts." "Jordan's knowledge of and interest in the business and political issues that make the Middle East such a dynamic growth market for the firm and its clients -- and his experience as the U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia in the days immediately after 9/11 -- were invaluable in the many successes we have seen in the region during his tenure as Partner in Charge," said Baker. Jordan was instrumental in helping to bring John Lonsberg and his team of lawyers from Norton Rose Fulbright to the firm in 2013, a move which dramatically expanded and strengthened Baker Botts' footprint and portfolio of capabilities in the Middle East. Lonsberg's team that joined Baker Botts specialized primarily on corporate and commercial transactions, regulatory and compliance, project finance, international arbitration and dispute resolution matters across a range of industries. This move, coupled with the alliance agreement signed with the International Legal Group in Kuwait earlier in the year, underlined Baker Botts' reputation as a significant legal force in the region, allowing the firm to provide an even broader range of services and capabilities to clients. "I am confident John Lonsberg will continue building on the foundation that Bob (and David Emmons before him) has built in the Middle East," Baker said. "John's wealth of experience in the region -- he has been resident in the area since 1980 -- will provide our clients key insights into how best to manage the challenges they face each day. " Commenting on his new appointment, John Lonsberg said "I am delighted to be taking the role as Partner in Charge for Baker Botts in the Middle East and I look forward to leading a team with such extensive regional experience over a wide range of industry segments and practice areas. We remain committed to cementing our position as one of the dominant legal forces in the region and will continue to focus on further developing our long-term relationships with Middle East-based businesses and government entities." Lonsberg will continue to advise clients on the regulation of business activities, including the satisfaction of foreign investment and fiscal requirements. Lonsberg had previously established Fulbright & Jaworski's presence in the Middle East when he joined Fulbright in 2005 and served as the partner in charge of its Middle East practice.
