(MENAFN - Arab News) A joint venture led by Arabtec Construction has been selected by Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) to construct a new hospital in Al-Ain to boost health care provision in Abu Dhabi's Eastern Region.
Arabtec will build a modern facility to replace the existing hospital in the Al-Jimi area of Al-Ain under the AED3.3 billion contract, said a company statement.
The 713-bed hospital, covering an area of 358,000 square meters, will provide general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, maternity, ICU and medical rehabilitation.
It will also include 104 advanced specialized clinics, 17 radiology rooms, as well as 22 rooms for endoscopy procedures. Other support facilities include a center for logistics services, a 60 MW power station, a mosque and a 1,500-car underground parking lot.
Hasan Abdullah Ismaik, managing director and CEO of Arabtec Holding, said: "We are proud to be associated with this cornerstone in the development of health care infrastructure in Al-Ain and Abu Dhabi at large."
The CEO added: "Arabtec has been actively engaged in a multitude of projects in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in support of an ambitious drive to build ultra-modern urban infrastructure for the UAE. The provision of world-class health care facilities is obviously at the heart of these initiatives and we at Arabtec are proud to be part of these efforts geared toward the wellbeing of people in the UAE."
Mohamed Khalifa Al-Fahed Al-Mehairi, CEO of Musanada and Tareq Abu Shreehah, member of the board of directors of Arabtec Holding, on behalf of the Arabtec led joint venture, at the headquarters of Musanada in Abu Dhabi.
The CEO said: "This new award is a significant addition to Arabtec's impressive backlog, and expertise in building health care facilities as the company is currently constructing Aldara Hospital and Medical Center, a 100-bed hospital that will house the largest and most technically-advanced outpatient center in Riyadh."
Ismaik added: "This new award is in line with our strategy to expand into specialized, high-margin areas of construction. The New Al-Ain Hospital, along with Aldara Hospital and Medical Center in Riyadh, confirm our status as a partner of choice for construction of ultra-modern health care facilities in the region, well positioned to capitalize on a huge investment in health care across the GCC."
The press release said construction work on the New Al-Ain Hospital is scheduled for completion by 2018.
The hospital's unique design combines the very latest medical technology with the community feel of an oasis village.
Aesthetically pleasing and exceptionally functional, it features vast, lush gardens in a temperature-controlled environment to create an oasis of healing.
Included in the overall master plan are several other support units that will be connected with each other and with the main hospital complex via an underground supply tunnel system to minimize traffic in patient-care areas.
Arabtec was the first private construction firm to go public when it was listed on the Dubai Financial Market in 2005. Today, Arabtec Holding consists of many subsidiaries, with specializations spanning all segments of the construction cycle.
The group is currently working on some of the most prestigious projects in the Middle East, such as the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi and a regeneration project in the center of Doha and is expanding into other regions.
The group is also expanding in oil and gas, power and related infrastructure sectors.
Arabtec's strong track record and commitment to timely and cost-efficient delivery has contributed to its rapid growth in recent years and a reputation for quality that has often translated into a market-led pricing premium for completed projects.
