Winning start for Oman in ACC U19 tournament

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman began its campaign in the ACC U19 Challenge with style on Saturday, walloping Myanmar by a whopping 254 runs in the Group B 50 overs a side opener at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok, Thailand.

Singapore, too, got off to a dominating start, securing a confident seven-wicket win against China in their Group A opener that was reduced to a 40 overs a side affair due to rain at the AIT ground.

The December 7-15 tournament is being organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Oman produced an allround show, snuffing out the Myanmar batsmen for a meagre 67 all out in 27.3 overs after smashing 321 for six upon being sent in to bat.

The Oman boys made the most of the situation after being put in to bat.

Gayash Dias led the charge with a pacy 64 not out, while Muntazir Zaidi (56), Taha Hassan (53) and Jathin Varijakshan (51) contributed with useful knocks to lift Oman's total past the 300-run mark.

Later, Man-of-the-Match Dias (2-3), Shuaib al Balushi 2-10 and skipper Shreyas Malhotra (2-11) skittled Myanmar for 67.

Brief scores: Group B: Oman 321-6 in 50 overs (Gayash Dias 64 n.o, Muntazir Zaidi 56, Taha Hassan 53, Jathin Varijakshan 51) beat Myanmar 67 in 27.3 overs (Dias 2-3, Shuaib al Balushi 2-10, Shreyas Malhotra 2-11).

Group A: China 68 in 31.5 overs (Abhiraj Singh 3-14, Navin Param 2-0, Brigu Iyer 2-11) lost to Singapore 69-3 in 11.3 overs (Archit Goenka 34 n.o, Singh 7 n.o).
